We’ve all been there – you’ve just spent the past forty five minutes choosing between various brands of milk, bread, peanut butter, meat, seafood, etc. It’s exhausting, but you’ve got your cart full of groceries, and you’re ready to get home and start cooking! And,
just when you’re about to leave you’re asked to make one more choice: paper or plastic?
You begin to sweat. You know both options are “bad” for the environment, but you’re not sure why or which one is worse. You’ve heard people talk about bringing your own reusable bag from home, but you always seem to forget. It shouldn’t be this confusing, right? Well, at Earth Fare, we make it easy. No matter what you choose– paper, plastic or a reusable bag – it will have a positive impact.
Enter our Choose or Reuse program!
Every time an Earth Fare shopper CHOOSES to take a new paper or plastic bag, they are asked to donate 5¢ to one of two organizations which support clean energy or conservation initiatives in their neighborhoods. Donations are voluntary - if you opt out or forget your bags from home, we supply empty recycled boxes for your groceries.
For each bag REUSED, Earth Fare will donate 5¢ to a Friend of Earth Fare: a local organization that aims to eliminate childhood obesity in the local community.
Those nickels and dimes add up. In 2008, Earth Fare reused over 1.5 million bags and donated more than $150K back to the community. So, it’s not just about paper or plastic anymore. With every bag, our customers are actually making a real difference in their communities and in the environment.
The choice is yours – Choose or Reuse? And, thankfully each choice is a good one!
