Baby
6-12 months
As your child grows older and their motor skills become more defined so should their interest in different types of food – especially solid food. While they probably won’t start demanding prime rib and baked scallops, you should be prepared to start introducing new foods into their life on a regular basis, including healthy cereals, fruits and veggies.
Baby Health Tips
-
Don’t force the solid – There is not a set time when a baby should switch to solid foods so let your baby tell you when they’re ready.
-
Mash it up - Begin with something natural and healthy that can be mashed up (like a banana) or ground up (like a fully cooked piece of chicken breast). This makes it easier for your baby to chew and swallow.
-
Avoid – At this age, your baby will put any and everything in their mouth. So, make sure to avoid anything with high mercury content (fish) or allergy content (nuts and eggs).
-
Mix it up - Introduce a new food to your baby every three days or so. This keeps them interested, and it helps you make sure your child isn’t allergic to anything he/she is eating.
-
Don’t fear fat – Your child needs a lot more fatty foods than you. Don’t be afraid to feed your baby foods with high fat content, but make sure it’s the good kind like omega-3 fatty acids.
